Office moving plans and many other new things coming up

What a beginning of the year we had – it totally was full of happenings and changes in our everyday life at the student union. There will be many changes during spring, and the move to Linnanmaa in the fall of 2020 and all the events in the spring are giving our board a lot to work with.

Last year we already decided to replace digital Frank student card in 2019. We are almost there, so new digital student card should be in use in no time! We just need to figure out the last IT-issues with that and then we are good to go. This is probably one of the biggest change this year, and it is visible especially for everyone with a student card. And don’t worry – we will inform about the new digital student card as soon as we know when it will be launched!

Another big change especially for our office crew is that our office is moving to Kotkantie campus in the end of April. In many ways, it will make our everyday life much more easier for us, since for example many of the working groups that we are attending have their meetings in Kotkantie campus. It is also nice to be closer to the students, and we are sure that it will bring us something new. Despite the move, it’s important to remember that there is life outside of Kotkantie campus too: Oamk has students also in Kontinkangas and Teuvo Pakkalan katu campus, and we must not forget Oulainen campus.

The students and staff from Kotkantie and Teuvo Pakkalan katu campuses are moving to Linnanmaa campus in the autumn of 2020. Oamk and Oulu University have been planning cooperations for the joint campus, and OSAKO has been an active part of the planning process too: we want to make sure that students are considered as an important part in every decision. Cooperation between the universities and joint campus will provide many possibilities. We are also trying to make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Moving to Linnanmaa means other things too than just cooperation between universities. We don’t want our social and health care students to feel left out, but we are lobbying also for their benefits. We want both Linnanmaa and Kontinkangas to be good places for students to live and study.

Even though advocacy work is in the core of everything we do, we haven’t forgotten about our events! Our first event of the year, Winter Rumble is this weekend, and we have begun to plan vappu parties and Preludi as well. We also made a deal with SuperPark so that there would be more alcohol free events for every student. First SuperPark event is in vappu week and another one next fall. We are constantly looking for new partners so that we could develop our sporty and alcohol free events even more.

As always, we wish for your feedback even in the smallest of issues, both via e-mail and anonymously in our feedback section in the website. We are doing everything for our student members – it’s easier to make an impact on your behalf if we know what your concerns and wishes are.

Have a great spring everybody!
