Did you just stick with your current insurance carrier, or did you shop around? We have two cars, one is a 2008 Fit, the other a 1998 Forester. We have a loan on the Fit, so we have always had full coverage insurance on it. When our insurance came up last month, I shopped around and found every other insurer I called was lower than who we had, and the one I settled on gave me full coverage and higher liability on BOTH vehicles for $ 200 less (over 6 months) than what we were previously paying.I'm not here to advertise for my insurer, so I'll put it this way: I spent a couple hours on the internet and on the phone and called several national insurers directly. I don't trust generic comparison boards on the internet, because that is where I got our last insurance. You don't even have to leave your current insurer, you can call them and tell them the quotes you got from the competition.Make sure you maximize your discounts. Paying all up front netted me a $ 50 discount. Letting them put a big brother device in our cars is netting us about $ 100 discount. No wrecks since 1988 (although I think they only consider the last 3 or 5 years) was another discount (not sure how much). Seems like there were a couple others, but I can't remember them. How much you will pay depends on what kind of car you have. You can’t get an accurate estimate without that information. A brand new sports car will cost thousands of dollars more to insure than an old station wagon.posted by viagra on April 1, 2012 5:44AM
Although MOST insurance companies are checking your credit, there are STILL some in the market place that do NOT.Just look in your local phone book for an independent agent and have them give you a quote. Tell them that your credit is not too good so they will know in advance not to waste any time going to a company that DOES check your credit. In my agency, we have over a dozen different companies for car insurance and about a third of them do NOT do a credit score. If you go to one of the 1-800 companies or an Internet based company, you can be sure that they WILL run a credit score.Good luck and I hope this helps!posted by auto insurance quote on April 6, 2012 8:05AM
Do they check your credit? You bet they do.Does it impact my rates? You bet it does. Why?Credit Scoring: An insurance score uses information from your credit report to determine how stable or financially responsible you are. There is strong statistical evidence, based on years of analysis, that people with high insurance scores – that is, people with superior credit histories – file fewer or smaller claims. The opposite is also true. People with lower insurance scores as a group tend to file more or larger claims.Just as with gender on those under 25, females having lower rates than males, it’s based on hard statistical evidence and is not discrimination.posted by auto insurance quote on April 7, 2012 7:18AM
IF you have an older, paid for car, with minimum liability coverage, it’s PROBABLY going to cost you darned close to $2,000 a year, if you DON’T live within 50 miles of NYC. Double that, if you live IN NYC.posted by auto insurance quote on April 12, 2012 3:40AM
There are many websites that can get you a quote online and a couple have been mentioned here. However, an independent insurance agent can research multiple companies and find the best policy at the best premium for your particular circumstances instead of trying to use a one size fits all approach. In addition when you use online or 800 number companies, you will never be able to talk to the same person twice and will have no one to advocate on your behalf or even explain the nuances of why a particular plan or policy limit might be better than another. I suggest getting references from friends or family members about local agents so that you can get the best possible service and rate!posted by health care insuranc on April 18, 2012 6:37AM
Sure but why… even if you sign up on line and get a binder, the company is STILL going to call you to confirm things and fill in the blanks that the on line form skips. If you then get a different quote you may not keep the policy in which case you have wasted your time.Better to do the Q&A first, get a firm quote, and get it over with.Try GEICO. they are fairly easy and the prices are not bad..posted by health insurance on April 21, 2012 10:57AM
Car insurance companies look at your credit report because they think that credit relates to whether you will file a claim.Your credit score is hurt by your credit report being viewed in connection with applications because persons who apply for credit more tend to be worse credit risks. The computer is not smart enough to distinguish between applications for credit and applications for insurance.posted by health insurance on April 25, 2012 9:04AM
