Tutoring in Oulu UAS
In student tutoring, students work as a peer counselor to other students. Student tutoring is most active in the beginning of the studies when peer counselors, who are called tutors are receiving new students during their first school days. Tutors work together with the staff of Oulu UAS who are responsible of study counseling. Tutors bring students point of view to study counseling by their experience of studying in university of applied science, of their school and it’s customs and of student life. Tutor works by his/her experience and the strength of student tutoring is that tutor and student share the same language.
The tutors who tutor Finnish degree programs are called basic tutor “perustuutori” or just tutor “tuutori”. Their most important task as a tutor is to help the students they tutor to group, make Oulu UAS familiar to them and help them in problems and questions concerning studying.
The tutors who tutor international exchange and degree students are called international tutor “kv-tuutori”. Their most important task as a tutor is to make Oulu, life and studying in Finland and especially in Oulu UAS familiar to the international exchange and degree students.
In every school of Oulu UAS works one or several tutor correspondent. In some schools there is one correspondent for basic tutors and one for international tutors. Correspondents usually are members of the board in school-specific associations. Tutor correspondents work as a contact person to schools tutors and they coordinate student tutoring in school with the schools Study Counselors. Tutor correspondents also participate in Tutor Team as the representative of their school.
